Hanxiao Lai, 23, was born in Shenzhen, China where she began her piano studies at the age of 6. Hanxiao is currently studying at the Eastman School of Music with Prof.Alan Chow. Her primary teachers include Prof.Xiao Mei of Shenzhen Art School, and Dr.Nelms McKelvain at the Idyllwild Arts Academy.

Hanxiao has been invited to music festivals including the Aspen Music Festival and School, Chautauqua Music Festival, Gijon International Piano Festival, and John Perry Academy. Most recently, she was awarded second prize at the Beijing International Music Festival and Academy Senior Division, Winner of the Steinway Society of Riverside County Piano Festival Competition. She was a semi-finalist of the Music Center Spotlight Competition in Los Angeles. During her time studying in the United States, Hanxiao was featured in National Public Radio’s ‘From The Top’ show, which was broadcasted on May 30, 2016.

Hanxiao has performed both in the United States and in China. As concerto competition winners, she has performed with the Idyllwild Arts Academy Orchestra and the Coachella Valley Symphony. She has been invited by composer Maria Newman to the “Malibu Friends of Music Concert” Series as featured soloist and chamber musician. Hanxiao has also had the honor of working with many influential musicians, including Robert McDonald, Hung-Kuan Chen, Julian Martin, Boris Slutsky, John Perry, among others.
